Welspun India will introduce a range of supersoft spunlace products under the Welicate brand name this week at the World of Wipes (WOW) conference in Atlanta, GA. The India-based company began making spunlace nonwovens on its patented machinery in mid-2012 and was running at fully capacity within one year, according to Pranay Sahu, head of sales and marketing. In 2014, Welspun doubled its spunlace production capacity to 12,000 metric tons per annum and is now among the few global companies offering a variety range of spunlace products including basic spunlace, high strength & low elongation products, three-dimensional embossed spunlace, spunlace made from from Micro fibers, scrubby spunlace and various multi-layer composite structures. Welspun also offers 100% cotton spunlace. “Welspun’s strength has always been playing with a wide range of fibers and multi-layering possibilities,” says Sahu. “Welspun’s R&D team has worked with various reputed suppliers and has developed Welicate products – they are extremely soft and at the same time offer superior functional properties.” Sahu adds that even before the official Welicate launch, a global wipes leader has already qualified the products and included it in its product range. “Innovation and versatility has been key for Welspun’s success in such a short span of time. Historically, the nonwovens industry has always offered space for innovative new players,” he continues. “Creativity and product innovation add value and create new applications. Welspun has understood this and emphasized the importance of innovation in the nonwoven business. Besides scaling up capacities, Welspun will make efforts to create intellectual property rights by working on new concepts and developing new products.” Welspun Group is one of India’s fastest growing conglomerates with $3.5 billion in sales, a strong presence in over 50 countries, more than 24,000 employees and 10,000 stockholders.
